Volvo Fuel Efficiency
In recent years, Volvo Construction Equipment has made several groundbreaking innovations in the process of moving toward a more fuel-efficient world of construction equipment. With their OptiShift technology, Fuel Efficiency Guarantee, and CareTrack system they are leading the industry in construction efficiency and productivity.
OptiShift Technology
OptiShift technology introduces two new features to Volvo’s wheel loaders: a torque converter with lock-up and free wheel stator as well as Volvo’s patented Reverse by Braking (RBB) function. The combination of these two reduces fuel consumption by up to 15% and increases machine performance. OptiShift launched in 2009 as an option on Volvo wheel loaders and since 2011 it’s become a standard feature on their larger machines– the L150G, L180G, L220G and L250G.
Not only does this technology make equipment more fuel efficient, it also reduces emissions and environmental impact. Established in 2009, OptiShift was years ahead of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) emissions standards and regulations, the latest of which–Tier 4–just went into effect at the beginning of 2015.
Sven-Åke Carisson and Björn Barttberg, the two engineers who developed the OptiShift system, were awarded the Volvo Technology Award 2012 and an annual Technology prize from a Swedish magazine for their achievement and engineering expertise.

Fuel Efficiency Guarantee and CareTrack
So confident in the money-saving fuel efficiency of its excavators, articulated haulers, and wheel loaders, Volvo provides a guarantee for 33 of its machines (Volvo Fuel Efficiency Guarantee). When your company purchases any of these machines, you automatically receive a free, standard six-year CareTrack subscription. Once this is activated, you also activate Volvo’s Fuel Efficiency Guarantee. With this, it promises that if your machine’s fuel efficiency and productivity don’t meet the model-rated fuel efficiency levels, Volvo will reimburse a portion of the additional fuel.
The CareTrack subscription supplies Volvo’s CareTrack system, a telematics system that provides a wide range of machine monitoring information that will give owners the data they need to learn how to reduce fuel costs, optimize performance, and manage their fleets to maximize uptime. The CareTrack system displays fuel consumption, location, hours of operation, speed, approaching service intervals, and much more.
Since its beginnings in the 1900s, Volvo has always been a world leader in the construction industry, developing and manufacturing high quality, safe, and environmentally friendly equipment. McClung-Logan is proud to support their internationally recognized brand by offering their equipment for sale and rental.
