Stanley Construction Leading the Charge in Reclamation and Land Development
Project Overview
Stanley Construction Co. Inc. is currently spearheading an ambitious reclamation project on a former sand and gravel mine site. The project, located on a sprawling 200-acre site, aims to transform a previously mined area into usable land for future development. This transformation is no small feat, given the scale and complexity of the work involved.
The site, fully mined by the end of 2022, requires extensive material movement to restore it to a buildable state. Stanley Construction began work in November 2023 and is on track to complete the project in early 2025. The reclamation process involves draining water from large former sand and gravel pits, removing the sludge and debris, then refilling these areas with buildable soil. Due to the size of the pits, each one requires up to two months from the initial draining phase to the final surface leveling.
The project started with the clearance of over 100 acres of trees and brush to make way for the large-scale operations that would follow. Today, Stanley Construction is moving an average of 16,000 to 18,000 tons of dirt, sand, and slush daily. By the project’s completion, the total material moved will amount to millions of tons.
Stanley’s On-Site Expertise
Stanley Construction has deployed three dedicated crews, totaling 30 crewmen, and four experienced foremen. With 12 large holes to clean out and fill, the scale of this project requires a fleet of heavy machinery, including:
- Over 15 Volvo articulated hauler trucks.
- More than 15 excavators, ranging from 80,000 to 200,000 pounds.
- Two Volvo 7,000-gallon water trucks.
- Seven 6-inch water pumps operating daily.
In addition, drones are utilized to calculate the volume of dirt to be moved and to ensure precise leveling as the project nears completion. This innovative approach allows Stanley Construction to maintain accuracy and efficiency in managing such a massive undertaking.
